Managing patients with gallstones

In the UK 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men will at some time develop gallstones.1 At least two-thirds of those with gallstones have no symptoms, and most stones are detected during investigations for unrelated reasons or at necropsy.2 In this article we discuss the medical and surgical management of patients with gallstones.
