Zolpidem (Stilnoct-Lorex Synthélabo) is a new hypnoticdrug licensed for the short-term treatment of insomnia. Themanufacturer claims that zolpidem "offers patients a good night'ssleep, without impairment to their day" and that it "is as easyto stop as it is to start". Similar claims have been made forother hypnotics in the past.
