The antiarrhythmic treatment of atrial fibrillation
In this article we review antiarrhythmic treatment for patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). Two years ago we discussed the role of warfarin or aspirin for the prevention of thromboembolic complications of AF.1 Here we consider the drugs used to restore and maintain sinus rhythm, to prevent paroxysmal episodes and to control the ventricular rate in paroxysmal or persistent AF. We also consider briefly the place of rhythm control using electrical means.
