Acamprosate for alcohol dependence?

People dependent on alcohol who undergo detoxification commonly relapse into further drinking, despite rehabilitation measures. Acamprosate (Campral EC-Lipha) was launched in the UK in 1996 to be used, with counselling, in maintaining abstinence after alcohol withdrawal in patients with known dependence. Here we review its effects.
