Termination of first trimester pregnancy

Nearly 200,000 pregnancies were terminated in the UK in 1996.1,2 Around 90% of the terminations were performed within the first 13 weeks of pregnancy.1,2 In this article, we discuss the two approaches used to achieve termination at this stage of pregnancy: medicines and vacuum aspiration.
