Melatonin for jet lag?

Melatonin is a serotonin derivative produced by the pineal gland. Variations in its secretion are thought to modulate circadian rhythms. Commercially synthesised melatonin is now being used to prevent jet lag although it is not licensed as a medicine in the UK. Here we review the value of melatonin for this use.
