Rationing and the NHS
The National Health Service (NHS) has finite resources, and if the demand exceeds these resources, choices must be made about what will be provided, when and to whom. The 2003 Drug and Therapeutics Bulletin symposium on 'Rationing and the NHS', asked how such choices are being made and whether the processes used in decision-making are appropriate. Here we summarise the talks given and discussion that followed.
