Drugs to prevent vascular events after stroke

Relevant BNF section: 2

Around 120,000 people per year in the UK have a first stroke or transient ischaemic attack (TIA).1 After a first stroke, about one third of people die within 1 year, and survivors remain at high risk of further vascular events (e.g. stroke myocardial infarction, vascular death).1 The 10-year risk of a major vascular event following minor stroke or TIA is 44%.2 Here we consider which drugs should be used to reduce such risks.
