Benperidol - a drug for sexual offenders?

Abstract

Benperidol (Anquil - Janssen) is a butyrophenone which the makers claim ‘removes the desire to indulge in antisocial forms of sexual behaviour but the ability to function appropriately in the normal sexual environment may be retained’. It is structurally similar to haloperidol (Serenace - Searle) and trifluperidol (Triperidol - Janssen), both of which are used to treat acutely disturbed and psychotic patients but are seldom prescribed for sexual offenders.
