Abstract

AMOXYCILLIN (Amoxil - Bencard) - When we reviewed amoxycillin in 1972¹ we criticised the way it was being promoted with little reference to ampicillin. This is now less true, but clinically helpful comparisons are still sparse, and over the last five years there has been a remarkable lack of controlled trials comparing the two drugs. Amoxycillin is marketed by Bencard, a subsidiary of Beecham, one of the makers of ampicillin and the sole maker of talampicillin.
