Abstract

Glaucoma is a common cause of blindness in this country and is associated with raised intra-ocular pressure. Pressure can be reduced by drugs which increase the drainage of aqueous or reduce its rate of production,^1–3 or by surgical drainage. When glaucoma is associated with other disease (such as iritis or trauma) each case requires an individual approach, but the principles of managing patients with closed-angle glaucoma or chronic simple glaucoma are now becoming clearer.
