Drug inhalation systems for asthmatics

Abstract

In the treatment of asthma, drugs are probably best taken by inhalation as this provides a response equivalent to that from systemic administration without risk of many of the unwanted effects. Only when this approach fails need alternative routes be sought. Several types of inhalant system are available, many specific to a single drug. This article considers the choice of inhalant systems and how each should be used to best advantage.
