Abstract

Azlocillin (Securopen - Bayer) is a new parenteral acylureido penicillin similar in structure and spectrum to mezlocillin (Baypen).¹ Similar drugs such as piperacillin (Pipril) are likely to be marketed soon. The manufacturer intends azlocillin for infections caused by Pseudomonas, but still markets mezlocillin as a broad-spectrum antibiotic, a promotion which we have already criticised.
