Fluoride in toothpaste, rinses, gels, and tablets

Abstract

Fluoride reduces dental caries1 2 and does so whether it is taken systemically as tablets, drops or in fluoridated water, or applied locally as toothpaste, rinse, gel or varnish. This article discusses these different alternatives and their relative merits.
