Diets to lower the plasma lipids
Abstract
Plasma lipids can be lowered not only by drugs1, but also by changing the diet. The indications are the same for either method. Special diets which lower the plasma lipids have no more been shown to be of value in established atherosclerosis than have drugs. Controlled trials are in progress, and prophylactic dietary control of plasma lipids is also under investigation, but the results will not be available for some years. Nevertheless many clinicians attempt to lower high plasma lipids by dietary means.
