Abstract

The new British National Formulary, published in September (No.4, brown cover),1 incorporates many improvements in the notes for prescribers; more improvements are promised for the next edition due in the spring. Prescription-only medicines are now identified throughout the book. The table on the addition of drugs to intravenous fluids gives further important detail on the mode of administration. Two completely new and valuable sections concern the use of drugs in pregnancy and during breast-feeding. A last-minute footnote in the index signals the fate of benoxaprofen.
