Abstract

Sulconazole (Exelderm - ICI) is the latest imidazole antifungal marketed for topical use. Like other imidazoles it inhibits fungal cell membrane synthesis. The manufacturer claims that sulconazole acts rapidly and has a broad spectrum of activity against dermatophytes and yeasts, with a low relapse rate, and high patient acceptability and compliance. Does it excel, as the trade name implies?
