Simvastatin (Zocor - MSD) is a new lipid-lowering drug, introduced since we last discussed hyperlipidaemia.1,2 It acts by inhibiting cholesterol synthesis and is claimed to be a breakthrough in cholesterol control. The drug is intended for adults with primary hypercholesterolaemia with a cholesterol >7.8mmol/l when other therapy has been unsuccessful or poorly tolerated.
