Dobutamine was briefly contrasted with enoximone and milrinone in the article about these inotropic vasodilators (13 May 1991, page 39), but what we said was too absolute. Dobutamine is a vasodilator, but less so than enoximone and milrinone. Unlike these drugs, it may be given to hypotensive or volume depleted patients, but only with the specific precautions outlined in the data sheet.
