Farewell to androsterone in atromid

Abstract

ICI have now withdrawn their product Atromid, a mixture of clofibrate and androsterone. As we said two years ago, trials have clearly shown that androsterone in the mixture has no effect on plasma lipids.1 More recent work has shown that androsterone also contributes nothing to the effects on plasma fibrinogen and platelet adhesiveness. Clofibrate alone will continue to be available in Britain under the awkward trade name ‘Atromid-S’.
