Generic prescribing in epilepsy

Abstract

Most NHS prescriptions for medicines are written generically.1 However, there are controversies around generic prescribing in epilepsy, with many specialists believing that changing the supply of an antiepileptic risks reduced seizure control or unwanted effects.2,3 Here we review the evidence and other issues around generic prescribing of medicines used in epilepsy.
