Lack of evidence on drugs to support benzodiazepine withdrawal

A Cochrane review that assessed pharmaceutical interventions to aid benzodiazepine withdrawal following long-term use and/or dependency was unable to draw conclusions on their efficacy and safety because of an absence of good quality evidence.1 The British National Formulary advises that benzodiazepines are indicated for the short-term relief (2-4 weeks only) of anxiety or insomnia that is severe, disabling or causing a person unacceptable distress.2 In 2015, there …
