Abstract

The use of suppositories and ointments for the treatment of anal and rectal disorders has long been popular. Dozens of preparations are available on prescription and dozens more are sold over the counter. There is a danger that reliance on them may delay examination and accurate diagnosis of any serious underlying disease.
