Abstract

Potassium depletion resulting from prolonged diuretic therapy¹ is apt to develop insidiously and may be dangerous. It is still not generally appreciated that renal tubular damage and myocardial degeneration may precede symptoms of depletion,² and that cardiac arrhythmias more commonly complicate digitalis treatment in the presence of hypokalaemia.
