AB  - In 1964 the original coarse-particle tablets of griseofulvin began to be replaced by the fine-particle tablets from which the drug is much more efficiently absorbed. Since their introduction the fine-particle tablets have been made in only one strength, containing 125 mg of the drug. Now larger tablets have become available. The adult dose for treating most superficial fungal infections is 500 mg daily, though extensive, severe or resistant infections may require 1 g daily. High doses may also be needed where the rate of inactivation of griseofulvin has been accelerated by induction of drug-metabolising enzyme, for example by phenobarbitone.
