AB The ganglion-blocking agents interfere with transmission of nerve impulses in autonomic ganglia. Together with the sympatholytic drugs such as guanethidine, they are the most potent drugs available for reducing blood pressure in hypertensive disease. The most impressive results have been achieved in malignant hypertension, but their rapid action on blood pressure has also made them valuable in hypertensive emergencies.
