Abstract

Hyoscine butylbromide (Buscopan - Boehringer Ingelheim) is a quaternary amine which has been claimed to be effective against smooth muscle spasm in the gut, biliary tract and urogenital tract. In recent months it has again been promoted for the treatment of dysmenorrhoea.
