Surgery and drugs in the treatment of breast cancer

Abstract

Despite efforts to educate women on the importance of self-examination and periodic check-ups, and advances in surgery, the mortality from carcinoma of the breast has remained constant for many years. In England and Wales 8,000 to 9,000 women die each year from mammary cancer which is either inoperable or recurs and progresses following surgery.
