Benoral, safapryn and levius
Abstract
Benorylate (Benoral - Winthrop), Safapryn (Pfizer) and Levius (Pharmitalia) are ingenious new preparations for giving aspirin, intended for the treatment of chronic rheumatic disorders and mild to moderate pain from many causes. They are claimed to have analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects comparable with ordinary aspirin, with little risk of gastric irritation and bleeding. They thus need to be considered together with enteric-coated aspirin. Benoral and Levius are said to produce prolonged elevation of plasma salicylate concentrations after oral dosage, so that twice daily medication suffices.
