The role of surgery in osteoarthrosis

Abstract

Many surgical procedures have been used in osteoarthrosis and the subject is both complex and rapidly changing. In these circumstances non-specialists are apt to be uncertain about what types of cases are worth referring for a specialist opinion. This article summarises the main types of operations available and tries to convey an idea or the results to be expected. To go into details would not be justified because surgeons’ views and the facilities for surgery vary widely and the referring doctor is necessarily dependent on both.
