Con-fer: contraception plus iron

Abstract

Con-fer (Parke-Davis) is a preparation which the manufacturers hope will serve the dual purpose of providing contraception and oral iron supplements. Each pack contains 21 tablets of norethisterone acetate 1 mg with ethinyloestradiol 0.05 mg, and 7 tablets containing ferrous fumarate 75 mg (equivalent to 23.4 mg elemental iron per day or 164 mg per cycle). The contraceptive tablets are yellow, the iron tablets brown. The combined treatment is claimed to be advantageous in that there is no cyclical interruption of therapy, hormone-free days being covered by the pills containing iron.
