Abstract

Unprepared travellers still die from falciparum malaria caught during holidays in endemic areas. In some cases the area was visited for only a short period during a tour of other countries. We discussed some aspects of malaria chemoprophylaxis three years ago,¹ but the timing of prophylaxis is most important if the traveller is to get adequate protection.
