Abstract

Clorazepate (Tranxene - Boehringer Ingelheim) has recently been introduced with claims by the manufacturer that it is ‘a new but distinctive benzodiazepine’ with a ‘specific anxiolytic action’ in ‘convenient once daily dosage’ and with ‘fewer side-effect problems’. Flurazepam (Dalmane - Roche) has been marketed even more recently as ‘a new and powerful treatment for insomnia’.
