Abstract

Flucytosine (5-fluorocytosine; 5FC; Alcobon - Roche) is a synthetic antifungal drug which is active when given orally. It is an analogue of the pyrimidine base cytosine, and probably acts by being deaminated to 5-fluorouracil which behaves as a pyrimidine antimetabolite during nucleic acid synthesis.¹
