Abstract

Yutopar (Duphar) is a solution of the β-sympathomimetic drug ritodrine, intended for intravenous infusion in labour complicated by fetal asphyxia. It is claimed that this will be lessened by the suppression of myometrial contractions and improvement of placental blood flow. The data sheet has been distributed only to obstetricians and hospital and wholesale pharmacists, but the proposed use of the drug raises more general issues.
