Oral anti-diabetic agents: how do they stand after the university group diabetes program (UGDP)?
Abstract
Three years ago we reviewed the use of the oral antidiabetic drugs1 in the light of reports from the large American University Group Diabetes Program. Arguments about the interpretation of this study and what conclusions justly follow from it have continued with increasing intensity but diminishing enthusiasm. The hope1 that new studies might resolve the controversies now seems unlikely to be realised. We therefore summarise now what has been learnt from this long debate.
