Abstract

Since we last discussed topical corticosteroids,^{1 2} several new products have been introduced. Do they have any advantages over the British National Formulary (BNF 1976–8) preparations of hydrocortisone, betamethasone (Betnovate) and fluocinolone (Synalar, Synandone)? This article uses the brand names for all other preparations because the approved names of the steroids are cumbersome and confusing, and because the brand name also specifies the base which is often important.
