Diarrhoea in children

Abstract

Disturbance of bowel function is a common presenting new symptom under the age of 5 years.1 On average a GP sees about one new case each week, most of whom suffer from diarrhoea rather than constipation. Spurious diarrhoea due to constipation with overflow occasionally causes diagnostic confusion.
