A bill to regulate promotion of prescribed drugs

Abstract

On June 21 Mr Mike Thomas, Labour MP for Newcastle-upon-Tyne East, was given leave to introduce his Prescribed Drugs (Regulation of Promotion Bill.1 The Bill has two aims, to discourage drug manufacturers from mounting clinical trials which are largely promotional, and to remove prescription charges in respect of drugs prescribed by their generic or pharmacopoeial names.
