Abstract

Labetalol (Trandate - A & H) is a drug with both α- and β-blocking action recently marketed for the treatment of hypertension. The manufacturer claims that the dual action of the drug makes it a more ‘rational’ therapy for hypertension since its main effect is to reduce peripheral resistance rather than cardiac output.
