Abstract

Five long-acting injectable antipsychotic agents (neuroleptics) are available. They are fluphenazine enanthate (Moditen enanthate),¹ fluphenazine decanoate (Modecate),² flupenthixol decanoate (Depixol), cis-clopenthixol decanoate (Clopixol) and fluspirilene (Redeptin).³ Their therapeutic and unwanted effects are broadly similar to those of their oral forms. Nevertheless, injectable preparations have distinct advantages as well as problems.
