When to consider joint replacement

Abstract

The hip is the most frequently replaced joint, followed by the knee. Prostheses for the ankle, subtalar, shoulder, elbow, wrist and metacarpophalangeal joints, and for the scaphoid, lunate and radial head are now available, and there is an increasing variety of designs.
