Abstract

Cimetidine (Tagamet - SKF) is the first histamine-H₂ receptor antagonist in general use. It reduces gastric acid secretion and is marketed for the treatment of duodenal ulcer, benign gastric ulcer, recurrent and stomal ulceration, reflux oesophagitis and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
