Management of retinitis pigmentosa

Abstract

The term retinitis pigmentosa (RP) describes a group of heritable disorders characterised by night blindness, constriction of the visual fields and specific changes in the fundi. It may be inherited as an autosomal dominant, an autosomal recessive or an X-linked trait, and each of these has a different prognosis and probably a different cause.
