Metoclopramide/analgesic combinations for migraine
Abstract
Two similar combination preparations, Migravess (Dome) and Paramax (Beecham), have recently been introduced for the symptomatic treatment of acute migraine. Migravess is an effervescent tablet of aspirin 325 mg + metoclopramide 5 mg; Paramax is presented as a tablet or as a sachet of effervescent powder containing paracetamol 500 mg + metoclopramide 5 mg. The metoclopramide in these preparations is claimed to relieve migrainous nausea and vomiting by its central anti-emetic effect1 and also to promote absorption of the analgesic by speeding gastric empyting.
