Ciclacillin, bacampicillin and pivampicillin - more relatives of ampicillin

Abstract

In 1977 we reviewed amoxycillin (Amoxil) and talampicillin (Talpen),1 an ester of ampicillin. We concluded that, although they are better absorbed, there was no evidence that these newer products have major clinical advantages over ampicillin. Diarrhoea seems less common with talampicillin and amoxycillin, and absorption is more reliable and less affected by food. Three similar new products have now been marketed.
