Abstract

Benoxaprofen (Opren - Dista) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with a novel mode of action. Other NSAIDs inhibit the formation of prostaglandins which are important in acute inflammation. Benoxaprofen has little such activity, but modifies leucocyte function, especially the migration of monocytes which perpetuate the inflammatory process.¹ The significance of this mode of action is unclear. In the usual animal tests of anti-inflammatory activity benoxaprofen is as effective as phenylbutazone.²
