Codeine and related drugs

Abstract

CODEINE - In both oral and parenteral forms, codeine has long been used for the relief of moderately severe pain, but as L. Lasagna1 observes in a comprehensive review of analgesic drugs “Despite codeine's long use as an analgesic drug, it is amazing how little reliable information there is about its efficacy, particularly by the parenteral route”.
