Deptropine (brontina)
Abstract
Deptropine citrate (Brontina - Brocades) is chemically related to diphenhydramine and antagonises acetylcholine, histamine and serotonin. It protects animals from the bronchial narrowing induced by these substances. Deptropine does not seem to have been compared with other atropine-like drugs in man, and relatively little is known of its clinical pharmacology. It is offered as a bronchodilator and antisecretory agent for chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis, bronchial asthma and vasomotor rhinitis.
