Abstract

In our article on slow-release morphine sulphate (MST-1) a year ago¹ we noted that the 10 mg formulation then available was insufficient for many patients. Furthermore some of the trials quoted used a 30 mg tablet size supplied only for clinical trials. These 30 mg tablets (MST Continus tablets 30 mg) are now marketed. They will be particularly useful in patients with severe persistent pain, and can be expected to provide relief for up to 12 hours, so that twice daily dosage will often be sufficient. Tablets containing 60 mg and 100 mg are also available but on a named patient basis only.
